Dr Andrew Carter graduated with honours from Melbourne University Veterinary School in 1987 . Upon graduating he worked in small animal practice in Adelaide for 3 years, before travelling to the United Kingdom . While practicing in Essex and London he completed a 3 year program of training in Veterinary Dermatology through the European School of Advanced Veterinary Studies in Luxembourg. He was subsequently successfully passed examinations through the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and was awarded a Certificate in Veterinary Dermatology in 1996.

Dr Carter then commenced specialist dermatology training at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies of the University of Edinburgh in 1998, completing his training in September 2001. He then returned to Adelaide to establish a referral dermatology service. In July 2003 he successfully passed futher examinations through the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and was awarded a Diploma in Veterinary Dermatology.
